Action Items
Support legislation to ban oil and gas wells from operating near homes, schools, and healthcare facilities.
Craft a comprehensive plan to gradually phase in renewable energy and phase out carbon-emitting energy sources across major industries.
Introduce legislation to stop issuing permits for hydraulic fracturing in the state by mid-2023.
Introduce legislation to halt all oil extraction in the state by 2040, with an exception for extenuating circumstances, such as if gas prices exceed a predetermined threshold.
How can we combat climate change on the one hand while protecting our economy and jobs for working families on the other? One answer is renewable energy. California has long been the nation's trendsetter in setting environmental standards, from reducing carbon emissions to inducing technological innovation. The price of energy from renewable sources continues to plummet, and our state must play a leading role in accelerating this trend. My campaign will not accept any contributions from oil and gas companies.
The environmental issue is also a public health issue. No one wants pharmaceutical byproducts or microplastics in their drinking water. No one wants to inhale pollutants that will increase their risk of lung cancer, asthma, and other illnesses. No one wants a warming climate to increase their risk of heat stroke and other maladies. What's good for the environment is also good for public health.
